Mugabe's Italian Job
Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 09:53AM The sickest irony or ironies is Robert Mugabe's arrival at World Food Crisis conference in Rome yesterday. 80% unemployment in Zimbabwe. Rampant inflation, poverty and early death the norm. Murdering and beating opponents of his regime. The complete ruination of his country; a country once a key provider of the continents food.
So, it is only right then that an organisation with equally low morals, the UN, should invite him to offer his views to as conference it is sponsoring on the world's food crisis. As one British minister put it, "It's like inviting Pol Pot to a human rights conference." Wasn't Pol Pot a former member of the UN's Human Rights Commission? He wasn't? Well he had all the right credentials.
